A TENSION AND COMPRESSION STRAIN GAUGE COUPLED WITH FIBER BRAGG

How to measure strain using fiber Bragg gratings

How to measure strain using fiber Bragg gratings

This paper gives a short introduction to FBG sensors, points out their special strengths and weaknesses and describes a measuring system which enables strain gages and FBGS to be measured simultaneously, providing all data processing functions originally developed. The work is devoted to the consideration of methods for determining the strain of objects using fiber Bragg gratings under a high-frequency vibration or pulsed mechanical action, which is difficult to perform using widespread methods and devices. A fiber Bragg grating is a small length of optical fiber that comprises a pattern of many reflection points that creates a reflection of particular wavelengths of incident light.

Simulation of Fiber Bragg Grating Strain Sensor

In this study, the Fibre Bragg grating (FBG) is modelled, simulated, and characterised with respect to maximum reflectivity, bandwidth, the impact of applied strain on the wavelength shift, ?B, and the wavelength shift sensitivity with strain for an optical. The work is devoted to the consideration of methods for determining the strain of objects using fiber Bragg gratings under a high-frequency vibration or pulsed mechanical action, which is difficult to perform using widespread methods and devices. Keywords Strain sensor; Bragg wavelength shift, Temperature sensor, Poisson ratio I. INTRODUCTION Optical fiber sensors are gaining popularity due to their numerous benefits, including: immunity to electromagnetic interference, intrinsic fire safety, low invasiveness, and the ability to send data.

Single-mode fiber pulse width compression

Single-mode fiber pulse width compression

A common method of temporally compressing ultrashort pulses is to first spectrally broaden the pulses via self-phase modulation in an optical fiber and then more or less correct (flatten) their spectral phase with a dispersive optical element such as a pair of diffraction. We present the design of single-mode fibers for two-stage higher-order soliton compression at 2 µm wavelength and achieve high-degree pulse compression in cascaded single-mode fibers. The compression performance for the initial input pulse width from 1 to 50 ps is also investigated. Time transformation (TT) approach and symmetrized split step Fourier method (SSFM) are compared here to obtain the compressed optical pulses.
