East Africa Optical Cable Project

East Africa Optical Cable Project

This list was initially developed as part of AfTerFibre, a project to map terrestrial fibre optic cable projects in Africa. The project was sponsored by and, on completion, will be hosted by the UbuntuNet Alliance. All information gathered by the project will be publicly available under an open license. The EASSy project is an initiative to construct and operate a submarine fibre-optic cable along the east coast of Africa to connect 20 coastal and land-locked countries to each other and to the rest of the world. In 2010, HTI (Hentorial Telecom International- Dublin, Ireland) set up by the chairman of WIOCC, John Sihra, led this optical fiber submarine cable system. Ethio telecom, Djibouti Telecom and Sudatel Group have signed a Tripartite Agreement under the Horizon Fiber Initiative, marking a.

Grounding of Metal Optical Cables

Grounding of Metal Optical Cables

One code sits on the iron throne and rules them all: the National Electric Code or NEC. The current language regarding optical fiber cabling grounding found in the NFPA 70 NEC 2014 is as follows: " 770. 93 Grounding or Interruption of Non–Current-Carrying Metallic Members of Optical. Any cable that includes any conductive metal must be properly grounded and bonded in conformance with the. Since an optical fiber cable is non-conductive and there is no electric flowing, there are several advantages over a twisted copper cable in deploying: The non-conductive (dielectric) characteristics of fiber impacts how a designer lays out cabling pathways.
