Is OTN a router
An optical transport network (OTN) is a digital wrapper that encapsulates frames of data, to allow multiple data sources to be sent on the same channel. An ONT converts optical signals into electrical signals, but it does not perform the routing functions that direct traffic between devices on a network. To connect multiple devices to the internet, you would typically need to connect a router to the ONT. A Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON) system is generally composed of an optical line terminal (OLT) at the service provider's central office and a number of optical network units (ONUs) or optical network terminals (ONTs) near end users, as well as the optical splitter. While both ONTs and routers play crucial roles in the functioning of a network, they serve distinct purposes and have different functionalities.
